stall #1 marrakesh

not quite

Below is a list of places I have dined at that have not made a blog post.
Quite simply I ask myself, 'is it likely I would eat here again?'. If the answer is no, I don't write it up.

L'Anima Cafe, The City 08/14 - I hear L'anima is meant to be wonderful - wouldn't know, am yet to visit. What I do know is it's little sister is not. It looks like the breakfast room of a nice business hotel. The bread was great, the rest of the food readily forgettable. I did visit during soft launch, so perhaps it will improve.

Kurobuta, Marble Arch 05/14 - it was all fine, but not close to the high expectations I had for London's first Japanese izakaya-style restaurant. An easy meal to forget, and not cheap.

Brigade, London Bridge 05/14 - a restaurant with little going for it other than its commendable social enterprise endeavours. Cheaply done interiors, a series of poor plates culminating in an inedible lamb main I had to send back. It's also expensive.

Suda Thai, Covent Garden 03/14 - starters were pretty good, mains were like any other average Thai restaurant. Not terrible, but there are too many better restaurants in town for me to visit this one again.

Truc Vert, Mayfair 11/13 - eggs benedict with cold un-toasted buns and an almost fridge cold sauce. Raw pancakes. Wrong drinks order. Had to ask repeatedly for condiments. Slow service despite only a quarter full. Bit of a shambles.

Roka, Canary Wharf (weekend brunch) 10/13 - not especially bad but food a bit 'meh'. Too noisy, too many people getting rowdy on unlimited wine. Doesn't even come close to brunch at The Connaught for the same price

Pitt Cue Co, Soho 08/13 - very nice staff but meat marinades quite sweet, too cramped and hot, not quite worth the crazy waiting times.

Brasserie Blanc, Winchester 08/13 - food tasted better than it looked, good value set menu, but nothing to write home about.

The Regency, Queensbury 07/13 - fantastic mogo and Kenyan beer, but I've had better meat at other Indians. However, I likely would visit again if in the area.

Yaneff at DSTKT, West End 07/13 - wonderful front of house but only half the courses on the tasting menu were good enough to write about

Mishkin's, Soho 05/13 - all dishes ordered were bland, uninspiring and under-seasoned, but great (strong) drinks

Lahori Karahi, Tooting 03/13 - burnt chops, no lentils in dansak, very odd bhajis. A particular well known blogger hypes this place, but I haven't returned despite it being round the corner to where I live. Lahori Karahi in Hounslow is far superior.
