The Spanish London Supper Club With A Wine Tasting Experience

Why I love a London supper club

I’m a big fan of a good London supper club. They’re some of the most fun places to eat in London. They feel fleeting and exclusive, and are often a very different experience to what you might get on a night out in a restaurant.

And if they include a cool wine tasting experience too, all the better!

This is exactly what I found at the Casa Campo Viejo London supper club – surely one of the most fun places to eat in London. Not only were guests treated to 5 courses of glorious regional Spanish food. But we also got to blend our own wines, plus a round of blind tasting!

A wine tasting experience with a difference

Before we got stuck into the food at this wine supper club, I first had to don a white lab coat.

Feeling like I was back in GCSE chemistry with beakers and measuring cylinders, I trialled and tasted my preferred blend of three lovely Campo Viejo grapes.

From this quite unique wine tasting experience, I learnt I’m partial to a mix of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo – which just happens to be the exact blend of Campo Viejo’s Rioja Reserva!

Expect nothing but excellent eating at this wine supper club

Then there was the terrific Spanish food, cooked by Michelin-trained chef Xabi Bonilla from San Sebastian. And boy did this London supper club impress with the food.

Think classic tortilla with a runny middle, mushroom and black truffle potato ravioli, codfish with piperrada and romescu sauce and tender beef cheeks cooked in wine.

There was also a glorious crema Catalana and some delicious puffed lentils and dark chocolate petit fours. Every course was accompanied by a different glass of Campo Viejo, making for a fabulous wine tasting in London.

And I have actually made piperrada (or piperade in French) myself before – a quintessentially Basque dish. It’s supremely easy and I highly recommend trying it at home: French Cooking: The Best Summer Tomato Recipe Is Basque Piperade.

A wine tasting experience at source – in Rioja!

I have also had the pleasure of visiting the Campo Viejo vineyards in Rioja themselves last summer. It was an amazing experience to get a tour of the site, which is available to the public.
